Choosing a set of clubs is an important part of bettering your golf game. There are a few things to consider when looking into buying a set of clubs, this article will help you in the process. I will describe the basic clubs in the Golf Club Set and help the beginner with some vital information. If you are taking your time and doing the research for the right golf clubs, the time and effort you put in researching clubs will pay off in the long run for an experienced golfer.
Firstly, let's do a breakdown of clubs. There are a total of 14 clubs allowed for each Golf Bag, the choice of clubs you put in your bag is up to you. The clubs fall into categorizes: Drivers: 1 wood. Fairway Woods: 3 wood, 5 wood. There are fairway woods such as the 4 wood, 7 wood and 9 wood, but are not common. And for the beginner I suggest the 3 and 5 wood for fairway woods. Irons: 3-9, sometimes you can come across a 1 or 2 Iron, not for beginners, but you can usually only find them in older era club sets. Wedges, which consist of the Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Gap Wedge, Approach Wedge and Lob Wedge. I suggest the PW and SW fir beginners. And the lofts for wedges varies from 50 Degrees to over 60 Degrees. And lately with the introduction of hybrid clubs, these hybrid clubs are a type of fairway wood and iron morphed into one, they are very consistent and have a very smooth swing, they can replace the higher irons, 3, 4. Putters round out the Clubs, there are numerous putter styles: Long putter, belly putter, mallet, blade, 2-ball, just to name a few. In order to have a complete set of clubs, you will need to have at least one of each of these clubs.
If you are a starter in the game of golf, let me tell you it is a sport you can hold on to for a lifetime. When looking into buying clubs as a beginner, I suggest just getting a set cheap to begin your golf career with, you can always upgrade when you feel more comfortable and confident in your game. I started out with a set of knock off clubs. Knock off clubs are replicas of big name companies: Nike, Titleist, Callaway, Ping, etc... I started playing when I was 7 and used those knock off clubs until I started golfing on the High School Golf Team.
Until you are a more experienced golfer, theres no need to worry about things like spin, fades, draws, shaft flexibility, club loft, etc..... The best thing to do as a beginner is to get use to the aspects of the game, enjoy the game and have fun with it. Take your time in becoming confident with your golf swing. Doing this will help you in the future, constantly improve your golf game, work on your golf swing and play some rounds. Until then, don't waste huge amounts of money on clubs that are far to fancy and technical than you could possibly need. This is something that many golfers regret, and something that you can avoid. Good Luck and Happy Golfing.
